Dark Neighborhood : A Reading and Conversation with Vanessa Onwuemezi

The Center for Writers and Translators at the American University of Paris is delighted to present, in collaboration with the , a conversation with Vanessa Onwuemenzi aboutDark Neighbourhood, her debut collection of short fiction. Published last October, the volume was named aGuardianBest Fiction of 2021. “She sends English off on a great line of flight,” novelist Tom McCarthy has remarked of Onwuemenzi’s writing, “from which it returns as poetry.”

About the speakers:

Vanessa Onwuemezilives in London. Her work has appeared inGranta,Prototype,friezeԻFive Dials. Her story “At the Heart of Things” won theWhite ReviewShort Story Prize 2019.

Daniel Medinis an editor and professor of comparative literature at the American University of Paris.

While the conversation will happen in person (Onwuemeziand Medin will appear in the Reading Room), the Library will stream the conversation on Zoom for a live viewing experience.
