When Lloyd聽DeLamater聽established the American College in Paris聽in 1962, he sought to 鈥渂ridge the gap of narrow nationalisms,鈥� creating an institution that would educate those ready to explore a world far beyond their birthplace.听Today, it is that same vision that propels a new generation.鈥�聽

In the spring of 2020, the world was聽shaken聽by the Black Lives Matter聽movement聽in response to the murder of聽George Floyd聽at the hands of聽police officers. Images of Floyd鈥檚 murder聽reignited聽the BLM movement聽across the globe as聽people of all backgrounds聽united against racism and the unabashed assault鈥痮n鈥疊lack bodies. Black students聽and alumni聽at 蜜桃导航聽quickly convened聽with faculty, staff and leadership聽to聽advocate聽for further support of聽Black students聽and alumni聽at the鈥疷niversity.鈥疶hrough town halls聽and open house discussions, many聽students and alumni of color聽came forward with stories of discrimination, feelings of otherness聽and erasure, and the desire for support, mentorship and community聽from聽within the University.听聽

Black Alumni at 蜜桃导航聽will support and welcome all self-identifying Black alumni, allies,聽and former students who have completed at least one semester of study at 蜜桃导航.听聽

In partnership with the University,聽the聽mission聽of聽Black Alumni at 蜜桃导航聽is to聽provide鈥痳esources, create鈥痮pportunities,鈥痑nd support those who聽experience聽discrimination and racial injustice.鈥疉s鈥痗itizens鈥痮f the聽world,聽our humanity binds us to the cause of鈥�鈥渂ridging the gap of narrow nationalisms鈥濃�痑nd鈥痵haping a better鈥痜uture鈥痜or鈥痑 new generation.鈥�鈥�聽

It is for this鈥痯urpose that聽Black鈥痑lumni鈥痺ill聽seek to鈥痵upport鈥痚ach other and Black students鈥痑t聽The American鈥疷niversity鈥痠n Paris,鈥痠n the following聽ways, including but not limited to:鈥�聽

1. Connecting Black alumni and students聽through networking, mentorship and mutual support;聽
2. Developing聽academic scholarship;聽
3. Creating聽opportunities for growth and success聽for Black students and alumni;聽
4. Promoting聽financial assistance to聽current 蜜桃导航聽students;鈥�聽
5. Amplifying聽the diverse voices of Black students;鈥�聽
6. Partnering聽with the University to聽create聽meaningful, lasting change at 蜜桃导航.听
